Lens-Artists Photo Challenge – The Spring in Spring Valley

This week, Tina is celebrating Spring for the Lens-Artists Photo Challenge. One of my favorite local places to visit is the Spring Valley Nature Center and Volkening Heritage Farm in Schaumburg. Sadly it wasn’t open this Spring for obvious reasons and and will remain closed at least through August. That being the case, here is a nostalgic look back at Spring in Spring Valley.

  1. So many of the beautiful places we love and previously assumed would always be available have been closed this year. It’s so sad really. I’m happy that we have photography to remind us of their beauty, as yours does!

    • I always think of my Mum when I go Spring Valley. It was one of her favorite places to visit and when she got older, every time we went there, she would always say, ” I’m so glad I got to visit one more time.” I’m starting to feel that way too and wonder if I’ll ever get to go back there.

    • Thanks, Marianne! I’ve heard that some of the nature centers run by the Forest Preserves of Cook County have opened up, but Spring Valley is part of the Schaumburg Park District, so different rules are in place. It’s just a question of checking online to see which locations are open before visiting. Maybe in a month or two, things will be more accessible.

      • It’s the same here! Some places to visit are open but nowhere has an indoor cafe open just yet but it’s early days everywhere …slow but steady and careful for us all!

    • Thanks, Amy. As a child living in a big city, the only time I saw farms was when we went on our summer vacations. Visiting Spring Valley always reminds me of those happy days far away from the noise and bustle of city life.
